if a filesegment or group of file turn inconsistent(ie broken), aoc will on startup re-download it and reapply it to your folder...thats why you can get varying bunch of files now and then even when there's no patch due

Last night I restarted the game, had to download 900mb patch, so I went to sleep then I restarted it this morning twice, first time 450mb second time 150mb. Anyone got any idea what this is causing? |

when you crah you usually get a thing come up saying it did not shut down do you want to verify or something (this my take several minutes) when you get a chance, doesnt have to be always, click yes - takes about 15 mins but it can rectify all the little errors your game may have rather than replacing entire folders etc |
